About the Photographer
  • Time Period: July 20, 1895 – November 24, 1946
  • Location: Born in  in Bácsborsód and moved to the Bauhaus for teaching. He then went to England and designed. He moved to U.S and became the director of the New Bauhaus
  • Object/ Subject: architecture, sculptures, abstract light, painting
  • What makes the photographer unique? : Moholy-Nagy's influence on American art was felt broadly in several disciplines. Along with the other emigres from the Bauhaus, he succeeded in instilling a modern aesthetic into American design. His experiments in light and shadow reinforced photography's value as a subjective medium, and therefore an artistic medium, rather than simply a means to document reality.

Your View
  • Why did you choose the photographer?: I chose this photographer because I thought he photographs were more appropriate to take pictures of. I also wanted to do his photograph that had to do with light and shadows.
  • How did the photographer inspire you?: The photographer inspired me to use edits. He also inspired me to use light and shadows to make things appear the way you want it to.
  • How did this change while working on the project?: It changed when I found out how hard it was to take a picture like the photographer.

Second Portrait

I increased the temperature of the picture by 2, and increased contrast by 3. I also changed the tint to 50 from 0 to make the light a little more yellow. I changed the clarity of the picture to 15, so it would appear clearer.

Composition Review - 3 Rules

Before

After

The picture on top showed the original image that was taken. The bottom picture showed after. My three rules of composition are framing, cropping, and viewpoint. The framing was the red in the background drawing your attention to the eye of the statue.

First Portrait

"Can You Not?" - Alvina

I took the picture in the Digital Photography room, and the person was Alvina. I changed the temperature and tint to make the light on the left side of her face so it wasn't reflecting as much light as before. Also, I made the shadows and contrast a little higher to make the picture and the subject darker. Last, I changed the clarity by 8 to make the subjects face, hand, and phone slightly less blurry.

Fifth Photo Submission, Self Portrait

I took this picture in the Digital Photography room. I made the white light on the left side of the picture softer so it wouldn't be so bright.

Fourth Photo Submission, Shallow Depth

I changed the clarity, vibrancy, and lens vignetting. The clarity made the the background a little less clear, so changing the vibrancy made the subject brighter and made the blue closer and bring you to the subject. The lens vignetting made the corner of the photograph darker so that it would be like a frame.

Third Photo Submission, The Third Rule

Rule #3: Viewpoint
I took the picture at a slant, but high above the subject. It looks like the subject is lower in the picture. Also from looking above, the side that is shaded is half the part with the light and the subject.

Rule 1: Framing
Rule 2: Cropping
Rule 3: Viewpoint

Second Photo Submission, My Second Rule

The Rule of Composition that I used was cropping. I cropped the right side of the picture to put the subject more to the right and keep the mural as the "dark" side.
